Many Expats enjoy the challenge of small business ownership here. The majority of Expats set up something small, ($5000 or less invested), for their new wife and family to operate. Of the 300 or so Expats in the region, perhaps 30 have delved into more substantial enterprises-most with negative results. Lending, education, agriculture, transportation, restaurants/bars/whore houses/resorts, boating/fishing/scuba, imported goods, construction are the enterprises that come to mind. The best advice is to live here for 6 months before investing.
